freezing baby's food

ever since baby started solids at 5months old, i've been cooking and freezing her food every weekend. i used to puree fruits, vegetables and even meat & fish and freeze them for 1 week. i bought this ice cube trays with cover from jusco. they are really useful and convenient. its capacity is bigger than normal ice cube tray.

i'm still using it to store and freeze her food up to now. since she's still eating her porridge, i just need to thaw and reheat 2 cubes of her food and pour into her porridge for 1 meal.

stir fried diced potatoes, celery and minced pork.

our saturday (10th Apr 2010)

started off the day with a visit to the wet market in kemuning to get all the ingredients needed to cook for ziyi. i pan-fried chicken patties with chopped broccoli and stir-fried minced pork with capsicum & french beans - all to be frozen for ziyi's whole week consumption. i spent the whole morning cutting, chopping, washing and cooking.

then i pan-fried some cheese sausages, spinach + cheese omelette and toasted some bread for our breakfast too.   later i cooked some noodle with leftover omelette from our breakfast & minced pork for ziyi's lunch. thank goodness she liked it! it was almost 3pm when i finished feeding her lunch & milk plus cleaning up the kitchen and i was dead tired!

i brought ziyi up to the room for her afternoon nap and this little rascal refused to sleep. played with her toys, read her books, disturbed daddy and mummy. i used the stick of a balloon to scare her, pretending to cane her, yet she wasn't afraid at all. i had to coax her to sleep coz we were going to bring her for a swim at our aunty's condo. an hour later, the hubs said we should leave now as we still have a birthday party to attend at 7pm! i dragged myself out of the bed and started packing their swimming stuff and we left at 4.30pm.

i thought ziyi would fall asleep the minute she's strapped in. i was wrong! she was still wide awake - from kemuning to the federal highway - and fell asleep when we were somewhere near sg. way. by the time we reached our destination, she woke up from her 40mins nap. as predicted, she was very grouchy and cranky. i changed her into a bikini (a gift from my cousin from the States) and she looked so cute. it was a tad loose for her eventhough the tag read 18M. see how skinny minnie my girl is.

we had a hard time getting her to sit in her float

she cried each time daddy carried her into the pool eventhough she loves water. my poor baby did not have enough of sleep. somehow, we managed to coax her by giving her a small cup to play with and they played in the pool for about 1/2 an hour. i was busy snapping their pics away.

she had another wailing session when daddy bathed her and resumed to her normal self after changing her. we headed to our friend's house at 7.30pm for his son's 1st birthday party. there were lots of good food - fried noodle, fried rice, curry fish head, rendang chicken, vegetables, butter prawns, and fried chicken. all home-cooked. his wife, a thai nationality, cooked some of their local food - tomyum noodle, thai salad, chicken feet soup (gross to me), and some other thai food which i wasn't sure of the name.

the hubs had a few beer and chatted with his friends while i was busy eating and feeding ziyi. :) we finally headed home at 10pm and ziyi dozed off in the car.

baked cheesy cheese log

i always browse the internet for recipes when i need more ideas to cook for my baby. 2 weeks ago, i baked “cheesy cheese log” for her. I had no idea what was that but since the recipes looks really easy and simple, i gave it a shot.

i got the recipes from here and the best part is i can freeze them for future use. It only took me about 40mins to prepare, bake and wash up. easy-peasy.

the texture was somewhat like a biscuit, but harder and a tad too dry to my liking. baby doesnt really like it either..but she still eats them since she prefer finger food. to reheat, i steam it to make it slightly softer.

homemade nugget

i read from this mummy's blog on how to make healthy homemade nugget for baby ziyi. it's also a great way to hide all the veggies your little ones refused to eat. i used broccoli, red capsicum and minced chicken thigh.

the nugget taste so good even without any seasoning. baby ziyi loves them too..yummy..

meal time = battle time

baby ziyi has been refusing to eat her normal food for the past few days. it was so stressful. i had to try many many ways to coax her into eating her food. she'd shake her head and fuss everytime the spoon touches her lips. she'll end up drinking her formula as her meal replacement, lucky she still willing to drink her formula. i did not bring her to her paedic yet, my instinct told me that this might just be due to her teething discomfort. mother's instinct is usually right, hor??

so far i've been able to feed her tiny amount of bread with cheese/unsalted butter and her biscuits which she loves so much. today, i've decided to make her scrambled egg yolk and she loves it. it's super easy to cook and i will do it again for her.

scrambled egg for baby/toddler

ingredients:
1 egg (use only yolk for infants below 12months old)
finely chop onions
finely chop veggies (any veggies that your baby likes)
shredded cheese (i used cheddar)
unsalted butter
full cream milk

method:
mix egg yolk and a little milk in a bowl.
heat the wok and put in a dollop of unsalted butter
saute onions and veggies till fragrant
pour the egg mixture and stir fry gently till it's fully cooked

p/s: sorry, there's no photos to show here coz i've again forgotten to recharge my camera's battery.
