Learning New Words

Mixing and playing with other children has its pros and cons. They sometimes picked up good and bad habit along the way. As for Ziyi, she learns new words almost everyday. She sometimes surprised me with her new vocabulary.

Lately she learned to say "Alamak" whenever she trips and fall. She could say it very naturally too! She amused me more when she said "No, thanks" whenever I offered her something that she doesn't fancy.

She would also say "Ai yo yo" if she thinks it's troublesome to do certain things.

Up to date, she has been learning mandarin for about 4 months. She is still struggling with her mandarin but her teacher mentioned that she's a quick learner and I shouldn't worry too much. I sometimes regret for not speaking to her in mandarin from young. Learning English language is much easier than Mandarin language. The only Mandarin words she has mastered is "Bu Yao" means don't want. I will try harder to speak to her in mandarin more often, though it can be very tiring sometimes, because I feel like I'm talking to the wall. LOL

Plain Lazy

I have been hearing comments from the school principal about Ziyi refusing to write but I usually just leave it as she doesn't have any problems writing at home. However yesterday, the principal told me again that Ziyi refused to write again. She has a new class teacher now, Teacher Kim, and she lied to Teacher Kim that she doesn't know how to write the alphabet D. When the principal entered her classroom and saw Teacher Kim holding her hand to write, she was shocked. She told Teacher Kim that Ziyi can write pretty well without help. I too have noticed that Ziyi is very lazy to write/color whenever she is not in the mood and it sometimes took her 10mins to write 1 alphabet! 

It so happened that her school friend's mother brought some fried Nien Gao over to share with the daycare kids yesterday. Being a very "wai sek" (love to eat) kid, she asked for a piece of the kuih. So the principal told her to finish writing her alphabets before she could eat the kuih. She happily wrote the whole page of exercise book with the alphabet E within 10mins and proceeded to help herself with the kuih.

She is just plain lazy to write or do any homework when she is not in the mood for it. She would even cry in the class when she was forced to write/color. I wonder whose trait she is after eh?? hmm...

Graduation Concert 2011

Ziyi's school graduation concert was held on the 16th Nov this year. It was also her very first performance on stage. The hubs and I were very excited and just could't wait to watch her performance. He took the day off as he needed to renew his passport in the morning. Apparently the renewing process was a speedy one, everything done through a machine kiosk and you get to collect your renewed passport 1 hour later. 

We fetched Ziyi from her school at 2pm and I got her prepared for her afternoon nap at home. It took her almost 2 hours to fall asleep, and by that time it was almost 3.30pm and I had to wake her at 4.30pm as we had to leave our home at 5pm. With just 1 hour of nap, she appeared cranky and restless. I made her some pancakes with cheese and cherry tomatoes, drizzled with honey. No time to feed her at home, lucky she liked it and whacked everything in the car. 

Bad day to leave the house at 5pm, it started raining and the traffic was really bad. Took us slightly more than an hour to reach Summit (only 15km from our place) and we were late. We had a hard time looking for the auditorium too and once we found the place, we realized there were many parents who were going to reach even later, no thanks to the massive traffic out there!

She was very happy when waiting inside the changing room. Running and playing with her friends. I sneaked in and took a few shots of her with her friends too. She kept telling me that she's going to dance and mummy & daddy must see her performing later.

When it was her turn to perform, we waited anxiously and both hubs and I were ready with our cameras. We were shocked to see her crying when walking up the stage! My poor little girl had a stage fright I guess. This is her first performance in front of a big group of audiences after all. No rehearsal was done at the actual venue thus she did not know what to expect, I supposed. Ziyi was asking for mummy and I had to sit on the floor, near to the stage so that she could see me there.

The 3 & 4 years old performed a simple chinese dance. 

They sang Krista and Rasa Sayang song for the closing of the concert.

Overall, we were happy with her performances though she was lost for a little while when she first got onto the stage. A very good exposure and experience for her. Hope she would perform better in the future and not be like mummy....I have stage fright too!! 

Coloring competition

Ziyi's school organized a coloring competition recently and she won a prize for her piece of art!

parent-teacher conference day

we attended ziyi's parent-teacher meet on a Saturday, 18/6/2011. this was our 1st parent-teacher meeting. it was kinda casual and a brief session. we reached her school at about 9.40pm and ziyi was quite unwilling to go to her school, thinking that she had to attend school on a Saturday! i told her that i was going to just talk to her teacher. she even reminded me again when she stepped down from the car.

we waited for about 20mins for our turn. her class teacher, Sara, showed us her workbooks. for her age, she does mainly coloring and tracing the dotted lines. then i was shown her 'report card'. she had both As and Bs, her Bs are mostly for creativity and arts skills. i noticed ziyi is not a person with much creativity though.

her teacher said ziyi knows her alphabets and numbers pretty well. she participates in the class activities, and she even likes singing and dancing. however, her teacher said ziyi can be quite stubborn at times. for instance, she wouldn't want to stand corner when she misbehaves and she sometimes refuse to apologize when she did something wrong. teacher also mentioned that ziyi is very talkative for her age. she talks to almost everyone, even to some of the 6 years old kids.

kindy scouting....AGAIN

yes, i was scouting for a kindy for ziyi exactly 6 months ago and now here i am, on a hunting mission again. that's because her current kindy is closing down, the owner is having some financial problem, so i heard.

it's really difficult to decide on which kindy to send her as there are not many options available in the area that we live in. there are a few good ones but they are not too willing to accept her as she's not potty-trained! mean eh...

hmm, i found one near to my house but the owner wants to confirm with the teachers if they are willing to wash and change ziyi's diapers as they do not have any maids/helpers around. i kind of like this kindy as it's new and reputable and most of all, it's the nearest to my house.

well, i still have 1 week to go before enrolling her into a new kindy. i really pity ziyi, she has to adjust and fit into a new environment and start making new friends again. hope it will not be difficult this time.
